Social Skills Class and scheduled Social Outings @ St Mary's Episcopal Church
Sep 17 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

ASO sponsored Social Skills Class for Adults from 6:30-8pm at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 1300 Pearl St. (SW corner of 13th & Pearl). The Lane County Chapter of the Autism Society of Oregon supports a Social Skills Class and Scheduled Social Outings on alternating months, in response to interest by participants in KindTree – Autism Rocks’ Support Group for adults on the autism spectrum. The classes and outings are designed for adults with high-functioning autism or Aspergers who can get around independently in the community.

During the Social Skills Class, conversation skills will be taught, role-modeled and practiced. The class is taught by Doris Germain, an Autism Specialist in the Linn-Benton School District. She has taught social skills at Autism Training and Support in Eugene. Her skill in teaching social skills has been learned from 20 years of working with people on the spectrum. No support groups or social skills activities in August.

The Social Skills Class is taking place on the 3rd Monday of alternating months from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on 13th and Pearl in Eugene. The Social Skills Class will decide on the activity for the following month’s Social Outing.

The Social Outing is taking place on alternating months on the third Friday evening of the month from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. or during the day on Saturday, depending on the activity chosen by the previous month’s Social Skills Class.

Lions Club Give Back event at BJ’s Restaurant in the Valley River Mall
Sep 26 @ 11:00 am – 11:00 pm

The Downtown Lions has created a new fundraising event called Lions Give Back. The  September Give Back event will benefit KindTree-Autism Rocks. The specific date will be Wednesday September 26th from 11a-11p. Bring a flyer (coming soon) to BJ’s Restaurant on 9/26. (Located in: Valley River Center 1080 Valley River Way, Eugene, OR 97401) You must show the flier to the waitperson when you order your meal for the 20% donation.

The Eugene Downtown Lions Club will receive 20% of the food and soft beverage sales for the day, purchased with the flyer, and then they will donate that money to KindTree-Autism Rocks. The more people that go to BJ’s that day and turn in a copy of the flyer, when they make their purchase, the more money will be earned for us.  WOOHOO! Lions!
